TECHNICAL DATA - WATER AND SOLVENT RESISTANT
STARMIST Glitter is especially designed to meet the requirements
of manufacturers of decorated fabrics, adhesives, vinyl sheeting,
plastic molding, inks, paints, and many other products which
require glitter of outstanding physical and chemical properties.
We are pleased to list below some of the extensive tests
STARMIST has been exposed to:
TEMPERATURE RESISTANCE
Although STARMIST has endured exposure to 350 degree Fahrenheit
with no apparent loss of color or reflective quality, the
actual limit of resistance is dependent upon dwell time,
mixing abrasion, and ambient process temperature.
SUSPENSION PROPERTIES
Because STARMIST has a significantly lower specific gravity
than most liquid or gel mediums where it is incorporated,
it will remain in suspension more uniformly during process
application.
CHEMICAL RESISTANCE
STARMIST has proved highly resistant to most commonly used
commercial solvents such as painter's naptha. Starmist
glitter can be used in most solvent, acrylic, vinyl and
aqueous systems. Test before use.
LIMITATIONS
1. Each chip of glitter has a minute edge of exposed aluminium
created when the particle is cut from the sheet. Therefore,
caustics and all chemicals normally affecting pure aluminium
could react with this exposed edge. This does not preclude
use of this glitter with these chemicals, however, since,
the short duration of most industrial processes may not
afford enough time to cause significant damage to the finished
product. It is advised that contact be checked before use.
2. Concentrated sulfuric acid will cause separation of
the coating from the foil.
3. STARMIST should be experience tested prior to application.
COLOR ADHERENCE
The coatings used to produce STARMIST are formulated, applied
and thermo set to create a superb coating strength with
excellent adhesion to film.Standard tests applied to the
coated foil are: Cellophane tape strip test, 180 fold and
crease test, and wrinkle test. Under all of these examinations,
no separations occurred between the coating and the foil.
In addition to excellent adherence of the coating to the
foil, it is equally important that the colors are resistant
to migration or bleeding into surrounding medium. Because
the finest available transparent pigments are used, the colors
are highly resistant to migration.
COLORS
A beautiful spectrum of brilliant colors is available in
STARMIST. Samples are available on request.
TOXICITY
STARMIST is a coated aluminum moralized polyethylene Tetra
phthalate, and is formulated to be Non-Toxic.
QUALITY
STARMIST undergoes thorough quality control in all stages
of production. The vacuum moralized polyester film and
coating are checked for gauge, brightness, color match,
solvent resistance and coating adherence.
The glitter is then precision cut on specially developed
high-speed machines with extreme accuracy. Size and shape
of the glitter is checked at frequent intervals. After cutting,
the glitter is carefully sifted through screens, two or more
times to remove any oversized or unrepeated pieces.

is based on scientific evaluation.
GLITTER,
GLITTER, EVERYWHERE
For the average person, not a day goes by without seeing
glitter in one form or another. Many paints, plastics,
boats, bicycles, signs and other objects too numerous to
mention use glitter to make them more appealing. If you
are a fisherman, many of your lures probably contain glitters
to catch fish.
THE ALLURE OF GLITTER
Glitter, like so many other eye-catching and visually/objects,
involves a subtle ever-changing motion.
The visual allure of a crackling campfire or a burbling
brook exhibits a variable in-place motion that is different
from the inanimate objects we humans normally experience.
Our senses are drawn toward motion.
The apparent motion of glitter is due to its ever changing
sparkle which occurs with the slightest eye, body or object
movement. Like a fine cut diamond, an imperceptible change
in the viewing angle results in a different visual picture,
and a myriad of ever-changing reflections captures our
attention.
Just as no photograph of a diamond could ever truly represent
its beauty, glitter must be experienced in the real world
to be appreciated.
We know that all glitter is not created equal, however,
and we do know what it takes to produce the best material,
with optimized reflections? and color purity.
Unlike a lot of glitter in the market today, STARMIST material
is precision cut on state of the art equipment to optimize
visual effects, and our reflective coating and colors are
carefully engineered to yield maximum color purity and
intensity.
It is easy to find manufacturers producing glitters from
.01 thick films about 200 G image in 50 mil, but AMERICAN
GLITTERS is the only one making STARMIST in the following
thicknesses.
.01 microns of 200G ---------- 50 mil
.005 microns of 92G ---------- 25 mil
.0025 microns of 48G ---------- 12 mil
There are many more particles in a thin film per kilo in
comparison to a thicker film. So when you use STARMIST
you get a lot more per kilo because you get a lot more
fine particles of STARMIST in a kilo compared to other
thicker glitters available in the market. Use STARMIST
to save money
